Homeschool Book Reports

As part of their language arts work Tortuga and Corazon do a monthly book report. They are two very different kinds of learners but they both enjoy doing book reports. This month their products were quite different but excellent nontheless. They had so much fun presenting their book reports and they were so proud of themselves. I was worried because even though Corazon is younger and technically in 4th grade, her skills are more in line with a 5th/6th grader. Tortuga is extremely jealous of Corazon and his skills are more in line with a 4th grader. I let him go first, gave him lots of praise, and even Corazon gave him lots of positive comments. Nonetheless as soon as she started he had an attitude! It makes homeschooling challenging because we can do very few activities with the two of them together without his being threatened by her, interrupting her, making faces at her, etc. Even so, I cannot complain too much. He is an enthusiastic and engaged learner and ASKS to do schoolwork in the evenings even when he doesn't have to! I think having two teachers/educators as parents has begun to rub off on him!

I love English...

I'm curious as to the titles of the books they picked- they seemed to have a great time!

Tortuga read Strider by Beverly Cleary. Corazon read Nim at Sea, by Wendy Orr. They are both big Beverly Cleary fans so I didn't let Corazon do yet another book report on one of her books and she branched out to Wendy Orr. Their current book reports will be on The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis which they both are reading.
